Baltimore Maternity Photographer.

Real moments. Real connection. Real family, with one more on the way.

Amy is a Baltimore maternity photographer based in Bel Air, Maryland. She has photographed maternity sessions since 2018, when she started out in New York, and today she shoots bump portraits, couples, families with older kids, gender reveals and pregnancy announcements, outdoors or on one of her backdrops. She directs every pose, so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands.

Five ways to do it

Which Maternity SessionFits You?

A maternity session can be just you and the bump, or everyone who lives in your house. These are the five kinds of maternity photography Amy shoots, and one gallery can mix two or three of them.

bump portraits

Bump portraits

Just you and the bump, turned to a soft profile so the shape reads. A fitted gown or dress shows it best, and Amy adjusts your angle between frames, so nothing has to be held from memory.

the two of you

The two of you

A maternity couple photoshoot runs on small moves: a forehead kiss, hands meeting on the bump, a laugh you didn't plan. Partners get prompts too, so neither of you is standing there guessing.

with the kids

With the kids

Big brothers and big sisters get a job: kiss the bump, whisper a secret to the baby, hold on for the family frame. A toddler who wanders mid-shot is welcome, because that's your family right now.

On a backdrop

A backdrop session keeps the frame clean so the gown and the silhouette carry it. Amy's backdrops come in black, pink, red and beige; black and red fit two people, pink four, and beige up to eight.

Outdoors

An outdoor maternity photoshoot gives you open grass, soft evening light and room for a train to move or a little one to run. A favorite park, a garden or your own backyard all work.

The big sister can be in it too.

One take, no rehearsal

Hiring a Gender RevealPhotographer?

Expecting couple cheering under a black umbrella as green confetti falls on a white backdrop, a gender reveal photographed by Create With Amy
gender reveal

A gender reveal happens once. The confetti falls, the smoke clears or the cake gets cut, and the faces you make in the next three seconds are the photos you'll keep. Amy photographs gender reveals the way she plans any big moment, with the angle, the light and where everyone stands settled first, so the reaction lands in the frame.

The reveal in this photo was confetti over a couple sharing an umbrella on a white backdrop, which kept the setup simple and gave them something to hold. Confetti, colored smoke, a box of balloons and a cut cake all photograph well. Tell Amy what the reveal is and who's coming, so the people watching end up in the shot too. Their faces are half the story.

Telling everyone

Need a Pregnancy AnnouncementPhotographer?

Before the bump shows, there's the news. A pregnancy announcement photo goes to the family group chat first and everywhere else after, and it works best with a small story in it: a sonogram print, a onesie that hints at the nursery, a pair of tiny shoes, a big sibling's new shirt.

Amy photographs pregnancy announcements both ways. There are close detail frames, like the dinosaur onesie and sonogram here, and there are portraits of the two of you holding the news. Bring the props that mean something to you. One or two is plenty, because the news is the headline and everything else is seasoning.

The gown question

What Do You Wear forMaternity Photos?

Every maternity session starts with a planning call, and what you'll wear is a big part of it. Amy helps you find the right gown and the right fit for your budget, the quality you want and the look you're going for, so you're not guessing on your own the week before.

Movement

A gown earns its place by giving you a train to toss, a skirt to hold while you walk and fabric that moves when you turn.

Fit

The shape that photographs best is fitted through the bump, with the drama in the sleeves and the train.

Color

Choose it against where you're shooting. Red pops off green grass, and light blue sits softly on a beige backdrop.

The money part

How Much Do MaternityPhotos Cost?

Maternity Session

What's already priced

Session, up to 2 peoplefrom $450
Each additional person$50
Extra backdrop$50
Travel, by distancefrom $30

Unlimited edited photos in an online gallery, in about a week. 30% nonrefundable deposit books your date. Balance on the day of the shoot.

Maternity photos with Amy start at $450. That covers about an hour, up to 2 people photographed and unlimited edited photos in an online gallery, which means every good photo she takes, with nothing sold a la carte. Each additional person is $50, so bringing the kids into a few frames is one more line on the receipt.

Every photo in that gallery is individually edited in a true to color, true to life style. Amy doesn't heavily retouch or smooth your skin, so the photos look like you and the bump looks like the bump.

The add-ons are fixed. A second backdrop is $50, and travel is billed by distance from Baltimore, starting at $30 for 15 to 20 miles. A 30% nonrefundable deposit books your date, the balance is due on the day of the shoot, and your gallery arrives in about a week. Every other rate Amy publishes sits on the Baltimore photography prices page.

Your session starts with your due date.

Timing

When Should You BookMaternity Photos?

Book maternity photos as soon as you know you want them, because a pregnancy keeps its own calendar. Amy's sweet spot is 28 to 34 weeks, and the session takes about an hour. An early shoot brings more energy and a smaller bump, and a late one brings a fuller bump with more time sitting and leaning.

Then work backward from whatever the photos are for. Galleries arrive in about a week, and faster delivery in under five days is available by inquiry, so a baby shower, a nursery wall or a birth announcement card all have room if the session lands early enough. Not sure what to wear yet? That gets sorted on the planning call.

Maternity PhotoQuestions.

How much do photographers charge for a maternity shoot?

Maternity shoots with Amy start at $450, which includes unlimited edited photos in an online gallery and up to 2 people photographed, and each additional person is $50. A second backdrop is $50, travel starts at $30 for 15 to 20 miles from Baltimore, and a 30% nonrefundable deposit books your date, with the balance due on the day of the shoot.

When should you take maternity photos?

Maternity photos are best taken between 28 and 34 weeks, when the bump is clearly the subject and you still have the energy for about an hour of moving around. Earlier tends to mean more energy and a smaller bump; later means a fuller bump, with more seated and leaning poses in the mix. Book far enough ahead that the date lands where you want it.

Is 20 weeks too early for maternity photos?

Twenty weeks isn't too early for maternity photos if you're already showing the way you want to remember. Earlier sessions usually come with more energy for walking frames outdoors, and a fitted gown with a side profile makes the most of a smaller bump.

Is 37 weeks too late for maternity photos?

Thirty-seven weeks isn't too late for maternity photos if you feel up to a session. Later frames lean on seated and leaning poses, which suit a fuller bump, so tell Amy how far along you'll be when you reach out.

What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?

What to wear for a maternity photoshoot is part of your planning call with Amy, where she recommends the right gown and fit for your budget, the quality you want and the look you're going for. Fitted through the bump photographs best, with the movement in the sleeves, the skirt or the train.

Can my partner and kids be in maternity photos?

Partners and kids are welcome in maternity photos with Amy, and one session can hold solo bump portraits, couple frames and family frames. Kids get small jobs like kissing the bump or whispering to the baby, and partners get the same posing direction you do.

Do you do gender reveal photos?

Amy photographs gender reveals, from the confetti, smoke or cake moment through the hugs right after. Tell her what the reveal is and who's coming, so the angle and everyone's spot are settled before it happens, since a reveal only happens once.

Do you photograph pregnancy announcements?

Amy photographs pregnancy announcements both as close detail frames, like a sonogram print next to a tiny onesie, and as portraits of the two of you sharing the news. One or two props that mean something to you are plenty, because the news is the headline.

Do you travel for maternity sessions?

Amy travels for maternity sessions across Baltimore, Harford County, the rest of Maryland and the DMV, including Washington DC, and takes New York City sessions by inquiry. Travel is billed by distance from Baltimore: $30 for 15 to 20 miles, $50 up to 30 miles, $70 up to 50 miles, $90 past 50, and trips over 200 miles by inquiry.

How long until I get my maternity photos back?

Maternity galleries from Amy arrive about a week after the session, and faster delivery in under five days is available by inquiry. If the photos are for a baby shower or an announcement, mention that date when you book so the timing works.

Hands, angles and what to wear on the day are all in Amy's guide to posing for maternity photos. Proposing before the baby news? She also works as a Baltimore proposal photographer.
